2/1- Dhaka (Family Day & Spa)
This past week has been very busy in Dhaka!! I feel like we've been here for several months moving at the speed of light, but when I pause and reflect on this journey it makes me sad to know we have less than two weeks left. I've been writing my blogs between midnight and 2am because 1. We've been going non-stop and 2. I never want to miss anything here. It's such a lively country where there's always something to look at (people, animals, traffic)... I just love the ambiance of this culture.
Well today I was so excited to be able to spend the day with my family. We went to bed around 1am and woke up at 5am to take a family drive and have a picnic (breakfast) which they do at least once a year with their relatives.
We had to wake up super early to avoid the Dhaka traffic (it gets more and more insane) and drove north for about 50 km's. We arrived at a breathtaking resort which had opened about a year ago by a famous Bangladeshi actor and actress. The couple was also into architecture and designed the resort. It was absolutely beautiful...(again pictures don't do justice!) We spent about 3 hours at the resort having breakfast, tea, and walking around...then headed home which took about 2 hrs due to...yep, traffic!
Our drive to the resort...
Today was suppose to be the Rotasia River Cruise, however, plans changed quickly due to another hartal. Therefore, we decided to spend our time wisely - having a girls spa day in the afternoon. It was AMAZING....
After such a rough day...lol, Semira and Shahreen (my sisters) had a girls night-out dinner since the parents were at an event. I really wish I could bring this family home with me...
Ammu and Baba (mom and dad) heading to event...
I can say that without any doubt, Bangladeshi's are the kindest, most hospitable people in this world. I just can't get over the fact that economically they are beyond one of the poorest countries, yet their hearts and smiles will win you over. I was talking to one of my uncle's the other day (yes, I have many relatives now) and he was saying, "We have family, what more do we need." It reminds me of the saying, "We may not have it all together, but together we have it all."
glad to have all of you...............
